Portrait of Yifan Wu

About Me

I'm Yifan Wu, a senior at UC Irvine studying Informatics with a focus on Human-Computer Interaction. I'm driven by everyday frictions and the belief that good design should protect data integrity while making things effortless for users.

My approach is rooted in user research and data-driven design. Whether I'm reimagining how users log sleep data (shifting from error-prone recall to event-based tracking) or designing inclusive interfaces for adolescents with varying cognitive abilities, I ask: Who might be systematically excluded if we design this feature?

Looking ahead, I'm excited about AI-driven UI/UX design — building generative systems that can translate sketches into functional interfaces and iterate on information architecture based on real user feedback. I believe the future of design lies in empowering creators with intelligent tools that are as innovative as manually crafted work.

I prototype fast in Figma, ship with Python, Java, JavaScript, and always aim for accessible, measurable outcomes. If you're working on problems that matter, let's connect.

Work Experience

UX Design Intern

NARI HCI R&D Center, Nanjing Jul 2025 – Aug 2025

Participated in the design of a GIS-based control interface for the Saudi power grid, focusing on transforming massive engineering data into clear, actionable information for operators.

Conducted thorough investigation of engineers' real workflows and needs, then developed a four-level progressive disclosure architecture: the homepage displays only the most intuitive decision signals; clicking into the dashboard reveals model outputs and regional predictions; deeper complexity surfaces only when necessary.

This approach reduced cognitive load while preserving access to full detail, directly improving how operators perceive and act on model outputs.
